Columbus Schools Chief Says District Joining State On A Troubled Student Tip Line

After Tuesday's apparent suicide attempt at a Massillon-area middle school, and a school shooting in Florida last week, safety is very much on the minds of school officials across the country.

At Tuesday's Columbus Board of Education meeting, acting superintendent John Stanford announced the district is joining with the Ohio Departments of Education, Public Safety and Homeland Security on a state hotline for tips about troubled students.

Board member Shawna Gibbs asked parents to help protect students.

The anonymous hotline number is 1-844-SAFEROH.  District officials say more details about the new "Safer Together" program will be rolled out in the next few days.
