Franklin County Changing How Tornado Warning Sirens Are Activated

WCBE Files

Franklin County Emergency Management officials say when meteorologists spot a funnel cloud this tornado season, sirens will sound only in the area directly affected.

The agency is dividing the county into four regional quadrants to align the outdoor warning siren system with how warnings are viewed on phones or television. The new policy will begin March 18 during Ohio's Spring Severe Weather Awareness Week.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
